Wishes

View this Dvolver movie animation and make a note of the 3 wishes that are made.  What do the different types of wishes express?:

You can get your students to create simple movies to send to you to view, or you can embed them on your class blog or wiki.
Find out how to create your own Dvolver movie in minutes by viewing this video tutorial.
See how Dvolver was used in an educational international cultural exchange project.
This very interesting TESL-EJ September 2008 article tells you how schools from Brazil, Japan and Argentina collaborated on a cartoon festival using Dvolver.

Two Famous Oxford Statues

Do you know where this statue is in Oxford?  Can you complete the statue's wish?

I wish......I could leave!
If only.......I could say something to the tourists!
If only...... I could say what I feel

Further practice with mixed wishes:
If only.......those people would stop shouting!
I wish.... people below would stop taking all those photos!
I wish..... I hadn't been put here!

Have you seen this life-like statue in the centre of Oxford?

What is this statue thinking?

The Iron Man statue was created by Antony Gormley. You can read all about how the statue was placed on the roof of Blackwell's Art and Poster shop in Broad Street in 2009 here..
You can view Antony Gormley's website which includes more of his famous statues here.

Getting Down to Phrasals

 Reviewing Phrasals with Comics

Get your students to create comics using phrasal verbs you have taught them.
Writecomics.com is the easiest comic tool to use.  You simply create your comic and then save it to your computer by right clicking on it, or you can send a link via email.
Below some examples created by myself and students in the past!
Can you guess which ones I created and which ones were created by former students and teachers?

To learn how to create a comic like these, you can read this blog post by Ana Maria Menezes from Life Feast blog.

Here's one Anush, Magda, Stefan & Emel created in class today!!

Here's a phrasal verb dialogue that Kasia, Alicja, Mustafa & Pilar created.  The dialogue was then converted to a series of comics and they were simply uploaded to Photopeach, a slideshow making tool.

A Joke on PhotoPeach

Finally, Midori, Edu, Aga & Betty created this phrasal verb dialogue which was then turned into a comic with Cambridge Online Superhero Cartoon Maker..

Word Cloud Introductions

A

Can you guess how the following words in the ABCYa word cloud are connected to Janet?

You can go to ABCYa for kids and create your own word cloud!

Use Tagxedo to create a fun word cloud using your image. You will need to have Silverlight installed on your computer. Write approximately 20 adjectives / expressions which sum you up and paste them into Tagxedo. Get your students to ask questions about what you have written.  Once you have shown students your word cloud, get them to create their own at home or in the computer lab and save as a jpeg to send to you.  Add all their Tagxedo clouds to your blog or wiki page and then ask students to guess who is who from the outlines and descriptions.  This makes for a fun activity for the class.
Thanks to Angelica from Chile for this wonderful idea!

TRUE OR FALSE?

Janet's met David Beckham and has got his autograph!
Janet's got a tattoo of a hen on her left arm!
Janet's received two letters from a princess!

What can you guess about this product, and why is it famous all around the world?  Can you work out what the name of the product is?

Try to draw something which is iconic about your city / area or country.  Think about how you can describe it, and the reasons why it is so well-known.

Write at least 50 words in approximately 3 minutes.  Then show / describe what it is to your partner. Think of a few questions to find out more about what your partner has described to you.
